MingJing 1.1: Correct Pillars If You Were Born Outside China

MingJing 1.1 fixes a narrow but important bug: born outside China near a solar term, your year and month pillars could be wrong. Terms are now compared by exact birth instant, and profiles recalculate automatically.

The one-minute problem at solar terms

A BaZi chart changes year and month at solar terms — not at midnight, and not on the first of the month. If you were born outside China, your local birth time first has to be lined up with the exact instant the term occurs, or the pillars can land on the wrong side of the boundary. Version 1.1 now compares solar terms by the precise birth instant, so a chart switches year and month at the same moment it would in Beijing. If you were born near a term boundary, your year pillar, month pillar and luck-cycle direction may change with this update.

Existing birth profiles are recalculated automatically. The old result is not silently overwritten: it stays on the Basis tab, so you can compare the two side by side.

Also in this release

  • Birth city search with 418 cities; time zone and longitude are filled in for you instead of looked up by hand.
  • Unknown birth hour? You can now cast a three-pillar chart, and the late Zi hour rule is an option, with the mainstream rule as the default.
  • The five reports — Foundation, This Year, Career, Relationships and Growth — have been rewritten around your Day Master, leading Ten God, Five Elements balance and current luck cycle.
  • I Ching now covers all 64 hexagrams, with moving lines and changing hexagrams, written as plain-language reflections.
  • Traditional Chinese has been added, the English terminology reviewed, and a sample chart is there to explore on first launch.

What has not changed

MingJing is still free, offline and account-free, with no ads and no tracking. Your birth profiles and readings never leave your device.

It remains a cultural calculation tool: it shows the structure of a chart and how that chart was derived, for cultural interest and self-reflection. It makes no fortune promises and no decisions for you — and every time zone, true-solar-time correction and solar-term instant behind a result is listed on the Basis tab for anyone who wants to check the working.
